The Canadian Federal Immigration Department (IRCC) is changing the Express Entry point calculation method starting November 3. Under the newly introduced 'Labour Market Integration' category, you can receive up to 150 points based on Canadian work experience or job offers in high-paying occupations.
• What changes: Only the higher of the two will be applied: Canadian work experience (based on duration) plus points for high-wage occupation experience, or points for high-wage job offers. The two are not combined. • High-wage occupations: Occupations where the median wage for the entire NOC is 1.3 times or more the national median wage of Canada. This is determined at the occupation level, not by individual annual salary. They are divided into three tiers based on wage levels. • LMIA is no longer required: Starting November 3, an LMIA is no longer necessary to meet Express Entry points or job offer requirements for the Federal Skilled Migration and Immigration Programs. However, IRCC will continue to review whether the job offer is genuine and meets the requirements. • What to do now: For candidates already in the pool, scores will be automatically recalculated and may take up to two weeks. To receive your job offer score, you must update your profile with all job offer information before November 3. Invitation rounds will be suspended during the recalculation period. • Note: An increase in your score does not guarantee an invitation. Invitation is determined by the requirements of each round and the cut-off score.
If you are preparing for permanent residency or if family or acquaintances are preparing for Express Entry, please check the IRCC page to see if your occupation is included in the list of high-wage occupations before application begins.
