A survey has found that an increasing number of Canadians are concerned about rising prices ahead of the Bank of Canada's next interest rate decision.
- In a survey conducted by Nanos for Bloomberg, 541 TP3T of respondents expected inflation to be higher in one year than the current level (approximately 31 TP3T). About one-third expected it to remain similar, while only 71 TP3T expected it to decrease.
- Canada's current base interest rate is 2.251 TP3T, and the central bank is monitoring whether high gasoline prices are spreading to the prices of other goods and services.
- The market views the probability of an interest rate hike at the next meeting on October 28 as about one-third, and there are also forecasts that there could be an increase of more than 11 to 3 T points over the next 12 months.
- The central bank is scheduled to release the business and consumer outlook survey on October 19, which is expected to provide additional clues for gauging the direction of interest rates.
If you are facing a mortgage renewal or a variable-rate loan, please check the survey results on October 19 and the interest rate decisions on the 28th. This survey was conducted from September 27 to 29 among 1,057 Canadians.
