Residential electricity rates in Ontario will switch to a winter system starting this coming Sunday, November 1. For households using Time of Use (TOU) plans, weekday peak hours will differ from the summer, so it is recommended to adjust your washing machine and dishwasher usage times in advance.

  • Most expensive time slot (on peak): Weekdays 7 AM–11 AM, 5 PM–7 PM
  • Mid-peak time zone: Weekdays 11 AM to 5 PM
  • Cheapest time slot (off-peak): Off-peak hours are from 7 PM to 7 AM the following day on weekdays, and all day on weekends and holidays.
  • Tiered pricing: The monthly usage limit for the lower rate increases from 600kWh to 1,000kWh. This applies to households whose winter usage increases due to electric heating, etc.

This winter system runs until April 30 and applies to RPP customers regardless of local distribution companies, such as Toronto Hydro and Hydro One. Please double-check your bill and the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) notice for the new rates effective November 1.
