On October 8, the Canadian federal government announced a large-scale home renovation support plan to reduce the burden of heating costs. The plan is to invest $2 billion over the next eight years to help a total of 1 million households with energy efficiency renovations.

  • New Nationwide Heat Pump Rebate Introduced: Up to 820,000 households are eligible for installing qualified electric heat pumps for cold regions.
  • Support Amount: Households with below-median income can receive up to $10,000, and other eligible owners can receive up to $2,000.
  • Simple procedure: No pre- or post-installation energy inspection is required. If you apply through the online portal, approval is confirmed within 24 hours, and payment is approved within 5 days after submitting the receipt following installation.
  • Expected effects: Oil, propane, and electric resistance heating systems can save over $1,400 annually, and heat pumps also provide cooling functions during the summer.
  • Application time: You can apply in advance not only when your existing heater breaks down, but also when it reaches the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced.

Korean homeowners facing a heavy burden of winter heating costs are advised to check the eligibility requirements and the list of eligible products in advance. Separate renovation support is also being provided for rental housing and multi-family buildings.
